GRADE 8 · DESIGN AND LIFE SKILLS · ABOUT 45 MINUTES

Choose between competing designs

Compare alternatives against explicit criteria.

Understand the idea

A design can be strong on one criterion and weak on another. A decision needs reasons and may involve trade-offs.

WORKED EXAMPLE

A folded stand is stable but uses more paper. A flat sign uses less paper but needs support. Compare both for the intended use.

MAKE SOMETHING YOU CAN EXPLAIN

Your practical challenge

Create a comparison table for two paper sign designs, then choose one for a stated setting.

Change the setting and reconsider the choice.
