Grade 2 English: Fun with Friends
Original practice accompanies NCERT Mridang Unit 1, Reprint 2026–27, pages 1–17. Open the official book for its readings and pictures. An adult observes language use and writing; automated choices alone do not establish these skills.
Chapter 1: My Bicycle · Chapter 2: Picture Reading and OUT! OUT!
Read and revisit all three selections
Read My Bicycle (pp1–2), the Picture Reading spread (pp8–9) and OUT! OUT! (pp10–12) from the official source. Ask one detail question, one sequence question where applicable and one supported reason. Accept home-language discussion then build English together.
- Answers use the correct source, not the analogous practice text
- Points to a picture detail or reading clue
- Reads or listens with an accessible response
Independent / supported / revisit for each selection and response.

Bicycle labels and sound observation
Use the official p5 label task: seat, pedal, wheel, bell, handle, carrier and brake. Handlebar is an accepted expanded term for handle here. Show bicycle/tricycle/wheelchair pictures. Offer three gentle bell sounds if available; the course has no prerecorded audio. A learner may use captions or visual vibration cues instead.
- Seven part labels matched
- Functions distinguished without riding or repair
- Describes heard or accessible observed information without guessing the owner
Name which evidence was oral, written, pointed or signed; note supports.
Observation: ________________________
Vowel, phrase and handwriting check
Read source pp4/14 word pictures. Model short a and e consistently. Use fresh cards cap, bag, pen, net, ant and egg. Ask for a/an phrases, then write four words and two phrases.
- Hears target sounds in the modelled accent
- Uses a/an with the next spoken sound
- Produces readable letters and word spaces
Keep sound recognition, phrase choice and handwriting observations separate.
Observation: ________________________
Source story order and role-play
Complete source pp13/15 comprehension using the official story. Retell in three to five events and role-play it in original dialogue. Explain source vocabulary such as threw, brought, picked, gathered, courtyard and skipped through original examples.
- Keeps source names/actions accurate
- Orders events from source evidence
- Takes turns and uses new vocabulary meaningfully
Record sequence, comprehension and dialogue evidence separately.
Observation: ________________________
Opposites and joined sentences
Use source p15 opposites with object drawings, including up/down, in/out, open/closed, fat/thin lines, hot/cold pictures and small/large objects. Complete the p16 joining task. Add two original joined sentences.
- Contrasts the same feature
- Uses size words without judging people
- Preserves both ideas with and and checks boundaries
Note source practice completed and one independently written example.

Interview and imaginative writing
Ask a trusted adult/class partner about a game, or use a clearly fictional role card. Record name, materials and a rule. Separately use p6 to create a magic bicycle drawing with three original sentences about appearance, place and purpose; revise one detail after feedback.
- Reports what was actually said
- Identifies fictional activity when used
- Marks make-believe clearly and revises one detail
Save or observe one report and one creative description; do not infer performance from MCQ score.
